NEIGHBOURS and staff at a Northwich care home have helped one resident celebrate a milestone event.

Barbara Dancy marked her 100th birthday on Sunday, June 2 with her family, before fellow Daneside Court residents joined the party on Monday.

Home manager Jo Farrell said: “Congratulations to Barbara on reaching 100 years young.

"It’s a pleasure to celebrate a special birthday at Daneside Court.”

Northwich Guardian:

Born on June 2, 1919, in Rugby, Warwickshire to Maud and William, Barbara trained as a bookkeeper before meeting the love of her life Stanley at a dance.

She wed the RAF ground crewman in August 1945 – pushed back a week due to Stan’s delayed return from Belgium as the Second World War drew to a close.

The couple went on to have two children, Nigel and Karen, in a 72-year marriage.

She worked as a school cleaner and later caretaker, and in her spare time enjoyed cross-stitch, knitting and needlework – including making her daughter’s wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses.

In later years she enjoyed doing large jigsaws and word searches with Stan and doing word searches on her Nintendo DS, as well as regular trips to the USA when her daughter and granddaughters moved.

She says the secret of living to 100 is keeping active and busy, and celebrated her centenary with son Nigel, daughter Karen, daughter-in-law Marina, grandson Simon, granddaughters Emma, Janine and Rory, great-grandsons James and Kieran, and family friends John and Helen.
