FORMER Wales international and Liverpool footballer Dean Saunders appeared at Chester Magistrates Court charged with two motoring offences.

Dean Saunders, 54, who lives in Whitegate, pleaded not guilty in court on Friday, May 31, to failing to comply with a roadside breath test when stopped by police officers on May 10 in Boughton, Chester.

The ex-professional footballer, who scored 22 goals for Wales during an international career spanning 15 years, also pleaded not guilty to failing to provide a breath sample for analysis later that day at the West Cheshire Custody Facility in Blacon.

The former Liverpool, Derby County and Aston Villa striker was represented in court by Marcus Johnstone, senior solicitor and founder of MAJ Law, a specialist motoring solicitors firm which runs the website drinkdrivingsolicitor.co.uk.

Saunders was told his case will be heard before District Judge Nicholas Sanders at Chester Magistrates Court for a case management hearing – which Saunders does not need to attend - followed by a trial at a later date.

Magistrates granted Saunders unconditional bail until his next court date.

Failing to provide a specimen for analysis when told to by police officers can carry a maximum sentence, if convicted, of six months in prison and a driving ban.
