I THINK I met every breed of dog at my Teggs Nose Dog Behaviour Clinic last Sunday.

Owners came along with tiny Chihuahuas, huge German Shepherds and everything in-between. I saw a whole lot of nervous, aggressive and angry dogs where the main component of their behaviour was fear.

Imagine what it must be like to live in fear every day that’s how these dogs spend their entire lives. Often their owners are as stressed as their dogs claiming they are at their ‘wits end.’ Others describe these dogs as aggressive or dangerous when in reality they are just scared. Take away the fear and you see an entirely different dog.

One such dog came to see me with a growing reputation for snapping at anyone who came near her. I was warned by the owner to beware as she apparently ‘hated other dogs’ and wasn’t too keen on people.

It was obvious to me within a couple of minutes this poor dog was afraid of everything. I didn’t have time to discuss her past but I could definitely help shape her future.

This dog was a prisoner in her own mind and it was time to unlock the door. It took no more than 10 minutes to gain her trust and after that I took her walking on lead with five other dogs she had never seen before.

She didn’t need sympathy… she needed help.

I meet dogs with all kinds of issues and most are no more than a lack of understanding. Families do their very best for their dogs but often exacerbate the very behaviour they are trying to prevent. It’s a vicious cycle.

On Saturday, June 1, I will be at Astbury Mere visitor car park Sandy Lane, Congleton, CW12 4FR, from 10am to 3pm with my behaviour clinic.

If you need help I will work one-on-one with your dog to resolve his/her issues.

You can text me on 07590 560012 for a fixed appointment or just turn up on the day and I will see you ASAP. (The only cost will be a £10 donation to a local animal charity)
