TATTON'S MP Esther McVey is gearing up for a Tory leadership bid as Prime Minister Theresa May today announced she will step down in two weeks' time - but the bookies don't give her much chance.

Ms May has announced that she will resign on June 7, paving the way for a new Prime Minister to lead the Brexit negotiations.

Esther McVey, MP for the Tatton constituency covering Knutsford, Wilmslow and parts of Northwich around Rudheath, put her hat in the ring to take over earlier this month.

Esther said she had supprt from fellow Tory MPs and confirmed she was planning a leadership bid.

Ms McVey said: "I have always said quite clearly if I got enough support from my colleagues, yes I would.

"Now people have come forward and I have got that support, so I will be going forward."

But despite having the support from colleagues, it's clear Esther does not have the same support from the nation's bookmakers.

Following Theresa May's announcement today, the bookies have made Boris Johnson the stand-out favourite to be the next Prime Minister at 6/4.

There are then 11 other candidates before Esther, who is priced at a huge 66/1.

Some strange outside picks include Piers Morgan and former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair at 500/1.
