TEAMS of Scouts will once more be racing on the Weaver as part of Northwich River Festival 2019.

They will be in action on Sunday, July 14 – day two of the event which returns to the town for the third consecutive year.

Chairman of the organising committee, Rotarian John Walton, said: “It was great to see the youngsters having so much fun last year, and we’re delighted to invite them back again.

“Their races are a prelude to ‘Rotary Raft the River’ races for the grown-ups in the afternoon, when teams of up to six will compete on rafts that they have to make themselves before the event."

Last year’s adult raft race included teams from the NHS and Cheshire businesses, as well as a group of individuals that clubbed together to enter as one team.

The festival is best known for the spectacular Dragon Boat racing which takes place on the Saturday and will see record numbers of teams taking part – with only a handful of places left.

Also making a welcome return will be Paperwork Street Theatre and Liverpool Pirate Brethren, as well as the Mid Cheshire Stand-Up Paddleboarders.

New for 2019 will be the Canis Major Newfoundland Dogs Water Rescue Display Team.

Northwich River Festival, which is raising funds for Cheshire Without Abuse, as well as other good causes, takes place on Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14 in the area close to the Odeon cinema.
