A MAN was seriously injured after being attacked by a stranger in the town centre.

Two men were walking on Academy Way – near to the Bank Street branch of DW Sports – at around 4.30am on Sunday, May 5, when they were approached by the attacker, who asked them for a cigarettes.

When the pair told the man they did not have any, an argument ensued and the stranger punched the victim in the face.

The 22-year-old, from Liverpool, was rushed to hospital after suffering serious facial injuries which will require ongoing medical treatment.

His attacker is described as being white, aged between 17 and 22, around 5ft6 with a slim build and short hair.

He was wearing a pink or red top and a dark tracksuit, and spoke with a Warrington accent.

Detective constable John Parry said: “The victim was assaulted on a night out in the town centre and sustained serious facial injuries that require ongoing medical treatment.

“The incident has understandably left him extremely shaken up, and we are determined to establish who assaulted him and make them face the consequences of their actions.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and as part of our investigation we are appealing for anyone who believes they may have information or footage regarding the offender or the incident itself to come forward.

“The same goes for anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage that may be relevant to our investigation.
