NORTHWICH, Winsford and Middlewich residents will head to the polls today, May 2, for the local elections.

All seats on both Cheshire West and Chester Council and Cheshire East Council are up for grabs, while town and parish councils across mid Cheshire are also taking part.

CWAC, the borough council for Northwich and Winsford, is set to be hotly contested – with Labour currently holding a majority of three over the Conservatives.

But a number of independent, Green, Liberal Democrat and UKIP candidates are keen to shake things up in the council chamber at Wyvern House.

And tomorrow’s vote is the first since CWAC’s ward boundary review – with all but three wards having changed, and five fewer councillors following the vote.

Meanwhile, the Conservatives are hoping to maintain their vice-like grip of CEC – the borough council for Middlewich.

But opposition parties are all hoping to breathe new life into the council, and the already-strong independent group is hoping to gain new members.
