A TOWN centre homeless shelter which has been battling to keep its doors open has received a £25,000 funding boost.

Developers Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West – both part of Barratt Developments Plc – have been raising money for Room at the Inn, on Winmarleigh Street.

In December, the site received a boost after council leader Cllr Russ Bowden announced a vital £3,000-a-month grant will remain in place until May 2020.

The fundraising by the developers’ employees has included sponsored walks, parachute jumps, runs, swims and bike rides.

But the main event saw the team take part in a sleep out in Warrington town centre, where staff took to the streets and swapped the luxury of a warm bed for a sleeping bag, to raise money for those who do it every night.

Robert Holbrook, managing director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West, said: “We are delighted to announce that our team has raised £25,218 for the charity.

“At Barratt and David Wilson Homes, we pride ourselves on our quality work and dedication and it’s nice to be able to maintain this through our philanthropic efforts.

“It was an absolute pleasure raising money for Room at the Inn as they are a fantastic charity with volunteers who are extremely compassionate in all that they do.

“They are incredibly committed to the great work they perform and it’s inspiring for us all to witness.”

Room at the Inn centre manager Susan Blyth added: “We want to say a huge thank you for the support and partnership extended to Room at the Inn from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

“They were not only amazing in the amount they raised for us but in reaching out as individuals, showing interest in what we do and supporting us throughout the year.

“The money will go to upgrading our sleeping area, a new disabled toilet and even a part-time worker during the day to help our current staff, who are rushed off their feet.

“As everyone can see, the money will make a huge difference and we are endlessly grateful.”
