Misspelt names of Llanidloes’ fallen First World War heroes could be amended if a grant is successful.
Cllr Trudy Davies said at a recent town council meeting that there are a few names on the Cenotaph and on war gravestones that have spelling mistakes which have stood uncorrected for almost 100 years.
Llanidloes Town Council agreed that it was time to amend them by applying for a war memorial refurbishment grant from Powys County Council, which ends later this year.
Meanwhile, a memorial bench that was installed in Llanidloes to mark the centenary since the end of the First World War has been given a spring clean.
Eagle-eyed residents may have noticed that the bench was missing from its usual location at the war memorial next to the Town Hall. At the town council meeting, Cllr Angela Morgan said: “The bench hasn’t been stolen, it’s been taken to be fixed but also for a bit of treatment. And then it will be fastened to the ground.”
The Llanidloes-made steel bench was funded by donations from the community to remember the men and women from the town and the surrounding area who served in conflicts.
