RESIDENTS in three of the four wards of Wilmslow will vote for new town councillors on Thursday, May 2.

While voting in the Cheshire East Council election, voters in the Dean Row, Lacey Green and West wards will also choose who they want to represent them on the town council.

The Conservatives currently have a solid grip of the town council, with 13 of its 15 members being Tories.

The other two are from the Residents of Wilmslow group, which was victorious in the town council’s most recent by-election in August 2016 and is fielding candidates in every ward.

Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats are hoping to make gains in two of the wards, while the Labour Party is hoping to win seats for Lacey Green.

Dean Row – four councillors to be elected:

  • Ian Ferguson, Conservative*
  • Frank McCarthy, Conservative*
  • Jon Newell, Residents of Wilmslow
  • David Howard Pincombe, Conservative*
  • Martin John Watkins, Conservative*

Lacey Green – two councillors to be elected:

  • Viveene Brooks, Conservative*
  • Damian Carr, Liberal Democrats
  • Steven Greening, Conservative
  • Paddy Maguinness, Labour
  • Ribia Nisa, Labour

West – five councillors to be elected:

  • Gary Philip Barton, Conservative*
  • Christopher John Dodson, Conservative*
  • Mark Goldsmith, Residents of Wilmslow*
  • Birgitta Hoffmann, Liberal Democrats
  • Angela Davenport McPake, Conservative*
  • James Nicholas Perry, Conservative
  • Julie Dawn Potts, Conservative
  • Oliver Jeremy Romain, Liberal Democrat

East ward is uncontested, meaning the following four candidates will serve on Wilmslow Town Council from next month:

  • Lata Andseron, Residents of Wilmslow
  • Chetan Katre, Conservative*
  • Jon Kelly, Residents of Wilmslow
  • Hannan Amer Sarwar, Conservative

* denotes current town councillor

The following town councillors are not seeking re-election:

  • Cllr Keith Purdom, Conservative, West ward
  • Keith Chapman, Conservative, East ward
  • Joan Fitzgerald, Conservative, East ward
  • Yvonne Warren, Conservative, West ward

Handforth and Alderley Edge parish councils are also set for elections next Thursday, as well as Holmes Chapel and Ollerton with Marthall parish councils.
