KNUTSFORD-based Tatton Photography is offering exclusive £5 portrait shots to children taking part in this year’s Royal May Day Festival.

Owner Dan Holland will be opening his shop in Knutsford Market Hall from 8am to 6pm on May 4 and carrying out mini-shoots for children in costume between 8am and 1pm and 3pm to 6pm.

For £5 per shoot participants will be able to collect a professional 6 x 4” portrait on the day.

Additional photos will be priced at £1 each and anyone wanting to upgrade to a 10 x 10” canvas can do so for £39.99.

Dan has lived in Knutsford for most of his life and is a big supporter of May Day.

He said: “Like most other Knutsfordians May Day is one of my favourite occasions; in fact, I’d say it’s better than Christmas.

“It’s a time when the town truly comes together.

“There’s always a fantastic buzz on the streets and it’s a great opportunity to catch up with people you’ve not seen for a while.”

After speaking to people about the festival, he came up with the idea for a May Day mini-shoot.

He added: “Parents always tell me how difficult it is to get a decent shot of their children on the day, and I thought this would offer them a good, affordable solution.

“I can’t wait to showcase some of the beautiful costumes, many of which I believe are now quite old.

“I will be open all day so people can come before or after the procession.

“However, it’s really important to state that if people are coming after the procession, they must not wear their costumes on the fair. “The May Day Committee do a great job each year of nurturing these precious costumes, and I would hate to see any of them damaged.”

Together with his fellow traders in the Market Hall, Dan is supporting the May Day this year with fundraising.

He said: “Collectively we decided to nominate Knutsford Royal May Day as our community project for the year, and are running a raffle with some amazing prizes donated by the traders, which will be drawn the day before May Day. Personally, I would also like to make an additional donation of £5 for every 10 x 10” canvas sold on May Day.”

Dan set up the business three years ago, working out of a shop in Northwich. Late last year, he made the decision to take a stall on Knutsford Market Hall.

He said: “The Market Hall has a great vibe, and we are like one big family.

“I’m really looking forward to May Day this year, and getting to see some of the children in costume.”
