A NORTHWICH couple has rolled the dice on a new business venture and launched the town’s first board game café.

Frazer and Betsy Eden, from Lostock, officially opened the doors to Board Beans Café on Monday, following a special family and friends preview on Sunday.

Driven by their own love of board games, the couple has created a café space where traditional games fans can dive into an extensive library which spans everything from classics such as Monopoly and Cluedo to modern hits like Super Rhino and Ticket to Ride.

Inspired by visits to cities such as London, Birmingham and Newcastle, where similar ventures have been a huge success, the couple cite the rising independent business spirit in the town as a big motivation.

Ahead of the official opening, Frazer said: “We’re offering something unique and different for Northwich. Whether you’re two or 92, we want everyone to be able to come along and spend some quality time here, playing games and connecting with each other.

“People spend so much time in front of a screen these days, we hope this will help friends and families enjoy some quality time together.”

With capacity for around 36 players, the Witton Street café offers game sessions for £3.50 per person for up to three hours, and primary school aged children can go free if accompanied by a paying adult.

There will also be a range of food and drink available, and with more than 300 games to choose from, with play times ranging from five minutes to three hours, Frazer has tried to ensure there is something for everyone.

He said: “The main thing is we just want to get people playing. Half of the problem with new games is getting started – you don’t want to spend 20 minutes getting your head around the rules. With most of the games we’ll be able to get you up and running in five minutes so you can spend your time enjoying yourself.

“We really want to create a fun experience for our customers and offer them something different that keeps them coming back for more.”
