A GROUP of fledgling runners have cut their teeth at the town’s weekly parkrun event.

After starting up the Couch to 5k programme at the beginning of the year, a group of Northwich Running Club’s newest members finished their training together by taking on the 5k parkrun event.

Despite some early morning nerves in Carey Park on Saturday, March 23, all members crossed the line – earning a medal and a graduation-style celebration.

Northwich Running Club member and endurance coach Jacky Thorn said: “It went really well.

“We started on January 15 and followed the NHS programme, which is nine weeks. We extended it to the tenth week so they could all finish at the parkrun together.

Northwich Guardian:

“There were some nervous faces at the start line but by the end everyone came away really happy.”

Following weeks of hard work, with some runners lacing up their trainers for the first time in January, the celebrations saw mortar boards thrown in the air on a warm Saturday morning.

Northwich Running Club runs two C25K groups per year, starting in January and September.

With three runs per week, the NRC slant on the programme also includes the addition of progressively developed warm-up exercises and drills and cool down and an ‘avoiding injury’ seminar by James Griffiths and Lee Wilkinson.
