WORK has begun to build 33 new homes for older people in Clifton - albeit with a slightly smaller shovel.
Four new bungalows and 29 apartments will be built at Marjorie Waite Court, which is next to Burton Stone Community Centre. A new hall will also be created at the council-run independent living scheme and the extension is due to open in winter 2020.
Cllr Carol Runciman said: “I’m pleased to welcome this extra care scheme at Marjorie Waite Court. Extra care schemes are for people with a range of care needs. These will be met by a 24/7 on-site team delivering personal care and support plans tailored to residents’ needs, and which are designed to help them retain their independence.”
Cllr Jenny Brooks added: “The older persons’ accommodation programme aims to address the needs of present and future generations of older people in the city.”
