A GROUP aiming to make Warrington a cleaner and safer place to live is hosting an event to

encourage people to stop using and disposing of single use plastic.

Clean Up My Community is a voluntary group based in Great Sankey that aims to clear communities of litter, especially plastic.

They are holding People Vs Plastic and Pollution, an event on Saturday March 23 from 10am until 1pm at St Philip's Church, Westbrook.

It is the first event of this kind they have organised with the aim of bringing like-minded people together, create networking opportunities and helping people with practical measures to reduce their plastic usage and air pollution.

The event will offer stalls selling sustainable products, an eco craft activity for kids, an ecobricks demonstration, the opportunity to make a pledge about how you will make your life more sustainable either on camera or in a pledge book and a practical litter pick session with a free guide to setting up a group to clean up your own patch.

Clean Up My Community member Steph Davies, said: "Using your consumer choice to make more sustainable purchases is powerful; we as consumers, can make a huge difference to the environment, as can reducing our own air pollution levels by driving less etc.

"Individuals can make an impact, but coming together with like-minded people creates momentum.

"We would like to follow up the event with a series of smaller environmental talks and workshops throughout the year if there is enough interest. We also hope to create a network of litter picking groups across the town; litter picking is a social event and has a great sense of achievement at the end of it. Who wouldn't want Warrington to be a cleaner, less polluted place to live?

We want people to feel empowered to take things into their own hands to achieve this."
