THE 'Cathedral of the Canals' is offering a unique backdrop to Mother's Day celebrations, as part of an afternoon tea and boat trip offer.

The Anderton Boat Lift is offering visitors the chance to enjoy afternoon tea at its Life View Marquee, with all those who book also offered a free boat trip along the River Weaver.

The offer is available on Sunday, March 31 from 11.45am to 4.00pm, with the boat leaving at 11.45am and tea served at 1.30pm.

Run by the Canal and River Trust charity, tickets cost £24.99 per adult and £14.99 per child. There is no charge for children under five years old, and the adult charge only applies to children over 15.

Sparkling glasses of Prosecco can also be bought to toast visitors’ special mothers. On request, teas can cater for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free guests.

Timothy Turner, the Anderton Boat Lift’s general manager, said: “This Mother’s Day afternoon tea is something really special and stylish.

"Throughout the year, mums often put everyone else first and this is the one day of the year when they are the star of the show.

"Booking this deluxe tea and river trip is both a wonderful way to pamper mothers but it also shows real thought has been given to making her day a special one."
