A REFURBISHMENT in underway at Northwich Library, which will see new self-service technology installed.

Work began on Monday, and runs until March 9. The library in Witton Street is set to reopen at 9am on Monday, March 11.

Additional work will also take place during the closure, including reconfiguration of the space, some shelving replacement, re-carpeting and minor re-decoration.

To make returning items easier, opening hours will be extended at Barnton, Sandiway and Weaverham libraries so that they are open six days a week during those two weeks.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, Cllr Louise Gittins, said: “Our new self-service technology will make it much quicker and easier to issue and return books and multimedia.

“Having self-service means we can reduce the size of the counter and have more room for the public.

“Self-service will enable staff to provide better customer service and there will always be a member of staff on duty if you need assistance and to help with queries and browsing for books.”
