ROADS have been reopened after a fire broke out at an abandoned warehouse in Birkenhead.
Emergency services were called at around 5pm today (Tuesday, February 19) to a warehouse on New Chester Road following reports of a fire.
On arrival crews discovered a large quantity of rubbish inside the building well alight.
Six fire engines attended the scene and firefighters used hand held branch hoses along with two ground monitors to tackle the flames.
Residents and businesses are being warned to keep all doors and windows closed.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is advising anyone with pre-existing medical conditions living nearby should keep medicines close and if they begin to feel unwell they should call NHS 111.
Police road closures were in place until 7.45pm on New Chester Road from the roundabout near Tile Giant and the roundabout near McDonald’s.
Due to smoke from a fire in a derelict building there are currently road closures around the A41 New Chester Road/New Ferry by-pass in #Birkenhead. Motorists are advised to avoid the area while the fire is dealt with. Traffic exiting the #Birkenhead tunnel is being diverted.
