ROADWORKS will take place on Winnington Lane between Winnington Swing Bridge and Winnington Avenue from Monday, January 14.

The works are part of a junction improvement scheme for the Winnington Urban Village development.

The improved access into the development from Winnington Lane will include a right turn lane.

In the first phase of the works, National Grid will be diverting the existing gas main and laying new, modern plastic pipes to replace old metal gas mains.

The programme has been revised to ensure that the gas works are completed before the junction improvement works and resurfacing later in the year.

Cllr Karen Shore, cabinet member for environment, said: “Temporary traffic lights will be manually controlled during peak hours to help ease the traffic congestion at this busy location. Working hours will also be extended so the works are completed as soon as possible. I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused for residents and motorists.

“Our Highways teams are in regular discussions with the all the contractors involved with this scheme to help keep disruption to a minimum.”
