RAIL bosses have said they are keen to acquire land around Hartford Station in order to expand its car park, following a letter from Northwich MP Mike Amesbury.
Parking problems have been an issue in the area for several years, with commuter parking on surrounding roads impacting on residents.
Constituents contacted the Weaver Vale MP to raise these concerns and he wrote to station operators West Midlands Trains.
The company has now said it has looked at expanding the existing car park and would 'welcome the opportunity to acquire more land'.
Mike and Northwich councillor Sam Naylor have now been working with Cheshire West and Chester Council to try and locate suitable land for a possible car parking site.
Mike said: “Sam had found some land which could prove suitable and in conjunction with the council we’re currently in the process of trying to ascertain who owns it.
“In a recent meeting with CWAC Chief Executive Andrew Lewis, I discussed this and he’s reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to work with us on it.
“This is something we all want to see resolved and hopefully we can find a solution that finally brings an end to these longstanding issues."
