MIKE Amesbury has rounded off his year in Parliament as he started it, by pressing for justice for those impacted by the leasehold scandal.

Speaking at the final Prime Minister's Questions (PMQ) session of 2018 today, Wednesday, he asked Theresa May what had been done on the situation.

At the first session of the year, in January, the Weaver Vale MP had called on the Government to help the 1.4 million UK households caught up in the practice.

In January, he highlighted the case of Northwich resident Emily Martin, and was told the Government was 'looking to see what action it could take'.

Speaking in the chamber today, Mr Amesbury said: "Can I use the last Prime Minister’s Questions of the year to ask whether she’s done anything about it, or whether she’s kicked it into the long grass as she has the meaningful vote?"

Replying, the Prime Minister said the government would introduce legislation ‘when Parliamentary time allowed’.

Speaking outside the chamber, Mike said: “This has been a particular issue in Northwich where we have entire streets of people trapped in this feudal system, who don’t own their property fully and aren’t able to sell their properties on, while the other half of the street is not bound into these ridiculous terms.

“It’s nearly a whole year now since Theresa May pledged to look into this but we’re still seeing no real detail to what help will be made available to my constituents.

"It’s simply not good enough, and I will continue to keep up the pressure at every opportunity to ensure they aren’t forgotten about and get the justice they deserve.”
