A WOMAN was talked down from a bridge in the town centre this afternoon.

Police were called to Midland Way shortly before 3pm today, Tuesday, after receiving reports of concerns over the welfare of a woman.

Officers spoke to the woman, who was safely talked down from the bridge – which links the Cockhedge roundabout and Golden Square Shopping Centre.

She was then passed into the care of North West Ambulance Service staff.

Midland Way was shut while police dealt with the incident.
