PUPILS from Weaverham High School have been spreading festive cheer by delivering hampers to residents.

Children in Years 7, 8 and 9 have put together nineteen hampers for residents in Moreton’s Meade, the independent living apartments managed by Weaver Vale Housing Trust.

Each form class collected enough items to make up enough hampers for each resident living in Moreton’s Meade and the students packed and decorated the gifts themselves.

Olivia Davenport, teacher at Weaverham High School, said: “My own grandmother lives in accommodation that’s very similar to Moreton’s Meade, and gets a hamper each year so we thought it would be good to do something similar for elderly residents in the local community.

“The children have really embraced it.

“They put each individual hamper together themselves and they really wanted to do something for the local community.”

Pupils and staff from the school visited Moreton’s Meade to deliver the hampers in time for the festive period.

Mark Harnett, team leader at Weaver Vale’s Independent Living Team said: “This is a fantastic gesture and we would like to say a big thank you to all the pupils and staff at Weaverham High School.

“A lot of care and thought has gone into producing these hampers, and they have brought a lot of happiness to everyone living at Moreton’s Meade.

“Our residents were very grateful for the hampers and it’s fantastic to see young people supporting their local community like this.”
