MIDDLEWICH twice came from behind to level but could not prevent Eagle from completing a Cheshire League double last weekend.

All five goals during an entertaining encounter in Warrington arrived before the break and the home team took the lead when Richard Chinn headed into the top corner.

Skipper Jamie Petrie then teed up Michael Whitehead to stroke in an equaliser for the Witches.

Eagle attacked from the kick-off and Ed Burthem made it 2-1 with a swerving shot that eluded goalkeeper Charles Masters despite him reaching it with his fingertips.

Middlewich battled on and Petrie sent an unstoppable drive high into the net to restore parity after reaching a pass slipped inside the full-back.

Eagle continued to attack, and Olly Fleming claimed a decisive third goal after a corner was cleared to him on the edge of the area.

Improving Winnington Avenue 1994 climbed into the table’s top-half as a reward for a 5-2 win at St Helens Town reserves.

They have now lost only one of their past half-dozen matches in League Two.

In-form Sam Didsbury and Craig Humphries both contributed a double while Raj Tandon came off the bench to score his first goal of the campaign.

“We might have scored more,” reflected manager Lewis Wood.

“It’s a shame we conceded two sloppy goals but more importantly we returned to top form.”

Middlewich reserves put behind them back-to-back home defeats when they dispatched their Golborne counterparts.

There were doubles for Tom Brain, Scott Connell and Oliver Tobin during a comfortable 8-1 victory, while player co-manager Chris Holbrooks and Lewis Chisholm were on target for the Witches too.

Shaun Bradley scored a hat-trick for Clock Tower to help them beat Mary Dendy in the Crewe and District League’s top-flight.

Jordan Sherlock was on target too in a 4-0 win for the visitors.

Barnton Wanderers’ home date with Tarporley was postponed because of a frozen pitch while Winnington Avenue’s meeting with Sandbach Curshaws also fell to the weather.

Winsford Saxons’ trip to MMU Cheshire for a Crewe and District FA Cup tie was cancelled for a second successive Saturday.
