FORTY Weaverham High School students got a headstart on their Christmas shopping during the annual Cologne Christmas Markets trip.

A mix of Year 8 and Year 11 pupils were encouraged to use their German language skills to buy souvenirs and get a taste of authentic German festive delicacies.

As well as visiting the numerous markets, pupils also experienced the famous Ludwig Art Gallery, climbed to the top of the cathedral, and enjoyed some hands on activities at the sports museum.

The trip, which has taken place for 13 years, is always very popular with many pupils inspired to carry on with German and return in Year 11 having thoroughly enjoyed their first visit in Year 8.
