"We urgently need to hear from anyone who saw what happened in Alwold Crescent.

"We have already spoken to a number of people as part of our initial enquiries, but we would like to hear from anyone who lives near the scene who saw anything that might assist our investigation to contact us.

Residents on a cordoned off street where an 18-year-old was fatally stabbed last night said police were searching a 'wide area' this afternoon.

A homeowner confirmed the stabbing took place around the middle of the road - which cannot be seen due to police blocking access at either end.

The woman said: "I don't want to comment on it, but yes it did take place close to my house."

Another man who lives further down the street said: "There was a stabbing last night.

"The incident was over quite a wide area, the police are out here now searching a large distance."

Officers were seen earlier on poking around in undergrowth and wheelie bins as they swept the area in their searches.

Another neighbour said they hadn't seen or heard anything but were unable to talk as police were currently conducting door-to-door inquiries.

Police say five people have been arrested in connection with the murder.
