THE LEASOWE community have come together to create free hampers for families in need of a festive boost.

More than 50 hampers are being supplied to households in need of support thanks to Prima Group, St Chads Church, Wirral Development Trust, Leasowe Community Centre, Wirral Council and local schools.

Anita Leech, cabinet member for environment and local ward councillor for Leasowe and Moreton East, told the Globe: “Helping families have a better Christmas is a fantastic thing to do, and it demonstrates what a special place Leasowe is.

"People stand up for each other and support their neighbours and their local community.

“This project is the result of many local Leasowe organisations coming together to find a way to support those most in need.

"I hope they go some way to helping the people we’re trying to support have a great Christmas with their families."

The hampers will include food to create hearty meals plus plenty of fruit and vegetables and have been carefully designed to allow those to cook the food by using minimal facilities.

Cllr Leech added: "Christmas can be a hard time of the year, and these hampers will make a big difference to people.

"I want to thank everyone involved in this truly inspiring project.”

The hampers include Christmas cards written by local schoolchildren, as well as a community Christmas pack with advice on what services, support and events are taking place over the festive period.

Many of the products featured in the hampers have been purchased from not-for-profit organisations across the borough such as Leasowe Community Shop, allowing funds to stay locally and support the sustainability of local charitable organisations.
