A FLORIST has been overwhelmed with donations of food and clothes for her soup kitchen.

Big-hearted gran Georgina Lockett wants to show people living on the streets in Winsford and those struggling to make ends meet that someone cares about them.

The mum-of-two set up a stall beside her shop, Georgina's Incredible Blooms on High Street in the town centre on Thursday - but no one came for any soup.

Some people did collect clothes but she is not giving up.

Georgina, 60, said: "A couple of people took jackets not nobody came for soup. All we can do is try and do what we can.

"The homeless will be treated with respect and they haven't got to feel undignified. I would rather they came and had some hot soup than go hungry."

Volunteers were joined by Winsford junior mayor schoolgirl Mya Barlow, 10, as they waited to serve hot soup and bread.

"It is good for children to realise that it is not all hunky dory and fairytales," said Georgina. "We have had all sorts of clothes donated.

"Hebden Green and another school have also donated toiletries.

"I will carry on with the soup kitchen until January. Children have made posters so we will put them up around the town and in the library."

Georgina and her team of volunteers will serve soup on a gated drive beside her shop every Thursday from 5.30pm to 8pm.

Volunteers are asked to turn up at 5pm.
