A WIRRAL hotel has been named as the 'Best Health Club' at the National Fitness Awards.

Thornton Hall's Health Club was been formally recognised for its 'top-tier' wellness facilities which includes a 20-metre swimming pool, fully equipped Technogym fitness suite, sauna, steam room, snowcave aerobics studio, two outside hydrospa pools plus holistic and clinical spas.

Now in its ninth year, the National Fitness Awards celebrates 'achievement and excellence' across the fitness industry.

Two win the award, the Health Club went through an assessment process which involved the site being visited by a member of the awards team.

Reports were then judged by an expert panel consisting of writer and nutritionist Ben Coomber, JD Gyms commercial director Amelia Worrall, karate champion Dean Hodgkin, fitness guru Katie Bulmer-Cooke and award-winning gym owner Steve Johnson.

Thornton Hall Hotel’s general manager Geoff Dale told the Globe: “We’re delighted that our health club has received this wonderful accolade.

"It has long had an unrivalled reputation in the North West, so to be recognised on a national scale is a true testament to the team, who have made this possible.”

Just this year alone Thornton Hall Hotel and Spa has received an award for 'Best Tasting Afternoon Tea of the Year' and the hotel's Lawns restaurant has been recognised as 'Best Fine Dining Venue in Merseyside.'

National Fitness Awards’ event director Judith Halkerston said: “All our winners have had an arduous journey to this point – the standard of entries seems to just get stronger year on year and every facility that walked away with an award should be extremely proud.”
