MIKE Amesbury has launched an online petition calling on Warrington and Vale Royal College to withdraw plans to replace its Hartford campus with housing.

Plans were unveiled last week for the demolition of the campus to make way for up to 108 new homes.

The Weaver Vale MP – who has opposed plans to close the campus since they were first announced – launched the petition calling on the college to retain further education at the site.

He said: “I’ve said all along that I want to see further education provision retained at this site.

“And the last thing Hartford needs is more housing due to the lack of existing infrastructure.

“These proposals are not right for the town and they’re not right for Hartford.”

Warrington-based Lane End Developments met with Hartford residents at a public consultation event on Thursday.
