GENEROUS students at Sir John Deane’s College have been raising vital funds and donations for a homeless charity as part of their studies around safeguarding vulnerable adults.

The Year 13 health and social care students met with volunteers from the charity Coffee4Craig, who support vulnerable rough sleepers on the streets of Manchester.

During the visit, which took place at the college, the students learnt about the work of the charity and some of the many issues around homelessness before handing over the bags of donations they had collected from within the department and the wider college community.

Sarah-Jane Hair, health and social care teacher at Sir John Deane’s, said: “Coffee4Craig has strong links with the HSC department and this is the third consecutive year that they have been to talk to our Year 13 students about what it means to be homeless or a rough sleeper, the causes behind homelessness and what can be done to support people living on the streets. Our donations are a drop in the ocean but certainly they make a difference to someone’s life.

“A pair of socks is a mundane every day item of clothing for most of us, but for someone who lives on the streets it is a luxury.”
