CROWDS turned out to watch Tatton MP Esther McVey switch on the Christmas lights at Lostock Gralam.

Pupils from Lostock CE Primary School sang carols as families gathered on the green at the junction of Manchester Road and Station Road on Friday evening for the festivities.

Ms McVey said: “It was a real honour to be asked to switch on the lights and I am really pleased the parish council invited me to take part.

"It was such a lovely community event and a great evening was had by all. The children’s choir made the event special and it was great meeting some of them and their families.”

Hot dogs and mulled wine were served afterwards in the church hall.

All the children who sang were given a selection box from the local community.

Jacky Beasant, chairman of Lostock Gralam parish council compered the event and said: “Thank you to Esther for taking time out of her busy schedule to switch on the Lostock Gralam Christmas tree lights.

"The light switch on was another great success and thanks to the Lostock Gralam CE Primary school choir who were amazing.

"The light switch on is always a great way to bring the community together. It was lovely to see everybody having a great time."
