WEAVER Vale MP Mike Amesbury has marked UK Parliament Week with a visit to Hartford High School.

The Labour MP enjoyed a tour of the school with head Mike Holland, before taking part in a Q&A session with the student council.

Topics included Weaver Vale itself, the future for the students' generation and wider politics.

UK Parliament Week, which ran from November 12 to 18, is an annual festival encouraging people from across the UK to engage with politics, explore what it means to them and get involved.

Mike, who is a backer of the campaign to lower the voting age to 16, said: “It was great to meet the students and hear about the issues that really matter to them.

“Whenever I visit schools in my constituency I’m always genuinely impressed by the level of knowledge and insight which young people have about really important issues, not only where they live but in wider society.

“Their questions really kept me on my toes and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit.”
