VOLUNTEERS are helping to breathe new life into the environment.

Members of the newly-formed Friends of Winsford Town Park planted 4,000 bluebell, snowbell and winter aconite bulbs along the woodland path leading in from Clough Road.

Volunteers were guided by the park's horticulturalist Jo Fawcett who designed the garden.

The bulbs are being planted in drifts and will be allowed to naturalise.

Children who came along to see what was happening helped to pop a few bulbs into the ground.

Volunteers enjoyed watching a lesser spotted woodpecker high up on a silver birch as they worked.

Cllr Tony Hooton raked leaves and planted bulbs as the team spent several hours on Thursday working their way round the park.
