CAMPAIGNERS working to preserve secret gardens threw a party that saw families enjoy an afternoon of nature-themed fun.
As part of the recent Discover Middlesbrough festival, members of the public descended on the former Nature’s World site, which is being cared for by an army of volunteers.
The Friends of Nature’s World ‘Bird Garden Party’ saw youngsters encouraged to learn about the birds that live in the secret gardens there.
The event also saw families enjoy a walk before making bird feeders, bird boxes and themed art using materials found on-site.
They also got to appreciate a bird garden and owl boxes installed with funding from River Tees Rediscovered’s Wings on the Tees project before investigating a display from the Nunthorpe Knitters which celebrated Nature’s World’s connection with hedgehog rescue organisation Hoggy Stockton Rescue.
Volunteer Scarlet Pink said: “It makes all of the work we do worthwhile when we get to see the public enjoy the natural beauty of the site.”
The Friends of Nature’s World volunteer twice weekly to restore the features of the once popular attraction, which is now closed to the public for the majority of the year, but opened for conservation based events organised by the group.
