A RESIDENT in a Lostock Gralam Nursing Home is celebrated 105th birthday on Remembrance Sunday.

Phyllis Sharps was born on November 11, 1913 and she has lived in Northwich for all her life.

She is now a resident of Acorn Hollow Nursing home and the staff planned a treat for her birthday.

Phyllis spoke to the Guardian about her plans for her big day and her life in Northwich.

Phyllis said: “I’m never particularly excited for my birthday.

“Debbie planned for the World War Two Singers, The Great Dames, to come and perform at the home.

“I had a lovely afternoon with my family, residents and the staff.

“The music brought back many memories.”

Phyllis has fond memories of growing up in Northwich.

Phyllis said: “My first house was in Dean Street and my last house was a detached house in Manchester road.

“I really enjoyed school when I was growing up. My favourite subjects were probably history and arithmetic and I really used to enjoy the school assembly every day as well.

“I met my husband, Joe Sharps, in Verdin Park and we were married for about 50 years.”

Phyllis is also a devoted Methodist and received a special Bible from the Middlewich Methodist Church on her first day of school which she still has with her today.

A spokesman for Acorn Hollow Nursing Home said: “All the staff here at Acorn Hollow Nursing Home would like to wish Phyllis a wonderful birthday.”
