NETFLIX stars celebrated the reopening of Smithy’s Gym after it was ravaged by an arson attack a few months ago.

Cast members of Bare Knuckle Fight Club attended the launch of the refurbished gym on Bewsey Road.

Shaun Smith, who owns the gym with his wife Amanda, is an ex-gangland enforcer but got a taste of fame when he starred in a Vice video called the UK’s Scariest Debt Collector.

He now runs Ultimate Bare-Knuckle Boxing (UBKB), a bare-knuckle boxing company that features in the critically acclaimed three-part documentary Bare Knuckle Fight Club on Netflix.

The gym was set on fire in an arson attack at the end of August and was ‘completely ravaged’ by the fire after someone forced their way into the building and doused it in petrol.

After the devastating fire, Shaun said: “I have been overwhelmed by the response of the community.

"They have come out in their droves to support me”

The blaze destroyed thousands of pounds worth of equipment and gutted the building.

The gym has been completely refurbished and offers the UK’s only Institute of Bare Knuckle Boxing, but also caters for gloved boxing, MMA and other combat sports as well as weight training and cardio.

Stu Armstrong, Shaun’s media manager and good friend, said: “Shaun and Amanda Smith are without doubt two of the best and most caring people that I know, we have become good friends over a number of years working in the sport of Bare Knuckle Boxing, it was heart wrenching to find out about the arson attack on the gym.

“This is far more than a gym, Shaun and Amanda do so much for the community and charity but don’t shout about and not enough people know this.

"As the old saying goes, ‘You can’t keep good people down’ and it’s amazing that Smithy’s Gym will reopen on Sunday and everyone is welcome.”
