POPPY sellers are sought to help raise money for this year’s Royal British Legion appeal.

In this, the centenary year of the end of the First World War, the Northwich branch of the RBL is looking to exceed last year’s astounding Poppy Appeal total of more than £37,000.

Poppies represent the sacrifice made by soldiers during the war, and they are often worn in the lead-up to remembrance to show support for the RBL – a charity providing lifelong support for Armed Forces personnel.

The Poppy Appeal is the RBL’s biggest annual fundraiser.

Terry Gamble, of the Northwich branch, said: “This year marks the centenary of the ending of the First World War and this year the Royal British Legion is launching the Poppy Appeal on October 27. It will take place at Barons Quay at 2pm on October 27, with the band from 146 Air Cadets.

“Last year the Northwich branch of the RBL raised a fantastic sum of £37,296.94 and we would like to thank everyone for their generous donations and all their collectors for the many hours they spent collecting for the appeal.

“This year, with it being a special year, the Northwich branch is aiming to exceed last year’s total – hopefully with your help.

“The RBL is always looking for people to collect for the Poppy Appeal, so if you can spare some time from October 27 to November 10 please contact me on 07707606031.”
