HARLEQUIN Players will welcome back Northwich writer and director Simon Jones to the theatre next week, with his latest project ‘Which Service Please?’.

Malcolm Barker, vice chairman at the Harlequin Theatre, said: “You should see this play because it’s hilarious, lots of laughs and double-meaning. It’s a light-hearted look at the funnier sides of our Emergency Services.”

The play was inspired by Simon’s friends who work in ambulance service and who had regaled him with some of the funny events they had come across over the years.

Audience members will witness the behind the scenes banter of some professional but odd ball characters.

The japes and antics and emotions of the people who take us when we need it most to hospital. From the managers and budget constraints to the downright hilarious scenarios the people on the front line get into. Set in an ambulance station, the story follows the day to day running with costs, patients, and crews all coming in head to head challenges. The story developed with the help of writer prerogative to result in a feast of comedy fit for any stage.

“It’s about as politically correct as a slap in the face,” Malcolm added.

“At its first airing, this light-hearted meaningful comedy went down so well with the audiences that included our regional ambulance members and managers, that in fact one senior member laughed so much he split his trousers.”

Writer and director Simon is a regular on the local amateur theatre circuit and has appeared in a number of Harlequin plays.

His debut as a director at the theatre was in October 2016 when he brought his play, The Last Stop, for a most successful run with nominations for awards by the Cheshire Theatre Guild. This serious look at life is a considerable contrast to his current offering.

The play will be shown from Wednesday, October 24, to Saturday, October 27, at the Harlequin Theatre, Queen Street, Northwich.

All tickets are numbered and can be bought online where the theatre plan is shown. See the box office at harlequinplayers.com/new-events
