THE Anderton Boat Lift and Lion Salt Works will come to the small screen this month, as part of Channel 4's 'Great Canal Journeys' show.
The two sites were visited in June by film crews and famous hosts Timothy West and Prunella Scales – as well as their son, actor Sam West.
At the Lion Salt Works Museum, the Wests interviewed Kate Harland, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s senior learning and operations officer, as well as Nick Hunt, chairman of the Lion Salt Works trustees.
They helped the family try their hand at making salt in an open-pan.
At the Anderton Boat Lift, known as the ‘Cathedral of the Canals’, the presenters climbed the giant lift as well as travelling through it by boat.
The lift floats boats through the air between the River Weaver and the Trent and Mersey Canal and is part of the Canal and River Trust charity.
Melissa Darch, duty manager and boatmaster was interviewed about the lift, which is widely regarded as a masterpiece of Victorian engineering and one of only two such lifts still operating in the UK.
'Great Canal Journeys' features the couple on a series of trips across Britain and abroad.
The Northwich episode will air at 8pm on Sunday, October 28.
