FUN, laughter and plenty of surprises are in store as Dick Whittington embarks on an exciting adventure.

The legendary tale of an orphan boy who sets off to make his fortune in London celebrates the 10th anniversary of family panto at The Grange Theatre.

Producer Daniel Bell, 26, said: "This is a brand new show with sets and costumes specially built for Northwich.

"Audiences can expect plenty of laughter and lots of surprises!

"We also have a live band and spectacular sets."

Preparing the show is a labour of love.

Daniel, who founded KD Theatre with fellow producer Katherine Hickmott six years ago, said: "We work all year on the panto, writing scripts and getting sets.

"We've got a slapstick scene based round making a giant cake with lots of gunge and funny moments!

"We believe panto is children's first visit to the theatre so we want to make sure it is accessible and there is something for everyone."

More than 40 children aged six to 18 were chosen from more than 120 who turned up for auditions in the summer.

Panto stars include Rob Stevens as Dame Sarah Fitzwarren and Oliver Scott as Idle Jack, both returning to Hartford for their third year.

Rory McCollum plays Dick Whittington, Annabelle Davies is Alice Fitzwarren, Oliver Tattersfield is King Rat and Grace Thorne plays Fairy Bowbells.

Daniel said: "All our performers are trained in quality musical theatre. They have appeared in West End shows or touring musicals.

"The Dame will be kept very busy as he has 14 costumes full of sparkles and sequins.

"Behind the scenes there is a team of 10 people you don't see who make the magic happen."

Last year, the team broke box office records with their production of the Wizard of Oz. In 2016, they staged Beauty and The Beast.

"It is hectic but great fun," added Daniel. "The thing I most enjoy is seeing so many laughing faces as people have a really good time."

The panto runs from December 17, 2018 to January 1, 2019.

Tickets can be booked online at thegrangetheatre.com or by calling the box office on 01606 539040.
