A NEW campaign is being launched to protect victims of domestic abuse who suffer in silence.

Open the Door aims to help people worried about friends and relatives feel safe and confident to raise the alarm.

Cheshire West and Chester Cllr Louise Gittins, deputy leader and cabinet member for communities and wellbeing, said: “Last year Cheshire Constabulary recorded 2,887 domestic abuse crimes, 833 were with injury.

“We know domestic violence and abuse has a devastating and lasting impact on victims, their children and families.”

Police and crime commissioner David Keane said: “It is very often family members of close friends who can see when a relationship is not healthy.

“This campaign is encouraging them to understand how to spot abuse and have the confidence to support someone they are worried about.”
