CHESHIRE County Council has promised the views of the public will be taken into consideration when plans are submitted for an incinerator in Lostock.

Waste Recycling Group (WRG) has announced plans to site the incinerator on the Brunner Mond site in Lostock.

A spokesman from Cheshire County Council said when an application arrived it would be carefully considered.

She said: "We have not yet received a planning application for the Lostock site, which has been identified in the Waste Local Plan as potentially suitable for a number of waste uses.

"Any application received will be carefully considered in accordance with the policies of the plan.

"The views of local residents and the borough council will be invited as part of the process."

A spokesman for Brunner Mond said: "We have been aware of the preferred sites set out in the Cheshire Waste Plan for some time and are waiting to see detailed proposals."

WRG handles some 13 million tonnes of household, commercial and industrial waste each year.

The company operates facilities for the reception, recycling and disposal of waste, including a network of waste transfer and recycling centres and a regional network of landfill sites, and manages nearly 70 recycling sites on behalf of local authorities for use by the general public.

Robert Asquith, WRG group planning and estates manager, said: "We are at the early stages of preparing a planning application but we want to give local people an opportunity to look at our plans now and tell us what they think.

"As well as serving a vital community function in helping to deal with Cheshire's waste and generating renewable energy, we also hope to create a striking architectural vision with our proposed Lostock facility.

"We will be holding public exhibitions in the next few weeks and want to hear your views."
