THIS year's annual Northwich Rotary Club Swimathon has raised more than £11,000 for good causes.

The event in March saw 198 swimmers from 33 teams swim 4,308 laps, or 68 miles – the distance between Northwich and Birmingham.

Sponsorship from Headwater Holidays and a donation from Robert's Bakery – along with sponsorship money from each team – amounted to to a total of £11,0084 to be split between 13 charities.

Next year’s event will be held at the Northwich Memorial Court pool on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24, starting at 4pm.

Rupert Adams, Swimathon chairman, said: "We are delighted that our Rotary Swimathon proves to be as popular as ever and that it continues to raise significant sums for local charities.

"We are particularly grateful to Headwater, our main sponsor, and of course the swimmers themselves."
