FIREFIGHTERS were called to a fire in the town centre yesterday afternoon, Sunday.

A litter bin was alight outside a shop when a fire crew from Northwich arrived.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "At around 4.55pm firefighters were called to reports of a litter bin being on fire outside a shop in Town Square, Northwich.

"They extinguished the small refuse fire using water and were in attendance for around 15 minutes."

Later that evening, firefighters were back in town dealing with burning plastic at a house in Hatton Lane in Greenbank.

One fire engine attended after a call at 8.05pm.

A spokesman said: "On arrival the crew discovered that it was controlled burning, but after separating the fire to see what was underneath it they found a large amount of plastic.

"Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire and cool the plastic and were in attendance for around 15 minutes."
