A CORTEGE of bikers rode through Northwich this week for the funeral of Steve Thomas who died in a crash in Bostock Green.

The ‘loving husband, father, grandfather and friend’ was followed by a stream of bikers before he was laid to rest at Walton Lea Crematorium, in Warrington.

His family has set up a Facebook page, named ‘Steve Thomas (Mechanno Man) Archive’ which has been flooded with tributes to the man who was known to many in the area as ‘a lifetime biker, bookworm and mechanic’.

His son, Phil Thomas, said: “It was a great send off for our father with friends and family coming from all over the UK to pay their respects. The day was made extra special thanks to all the bikers who turned out despite the bad weather.

“Our father was well-respected by everybody he met. He was known for his friendly, funny personality and rib-crushing hugs, as well as always being on hand to help anybody who asked.

“This could be anything from helping friends with mechanical issues, babysitting one of his many granddaughters, playing taxi to all of us when needed as well as being an ear to chew when you are down or have a problem.

“He would always rectify things with a good brew and a big hug.”

Northwich Bikers and Kings Arms Motorcycle Clubs made the precession possible, with marshals on hand to ensure safety.

The 63-year-old motorcyclist, from Lostock Gralam, collided with an Audi car, in London Road, at around 12.15pm on Sunday, April 8.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital where he died.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or has any other information that may help Cheshire Police with their enquiries, should call 101 and quote the incident number 30957.
