AN event commemorating Lawrence of Arabia’s visit to Northwich will bring the Lawrence Trail to our doorsteps this month.
The T E Lawrence Society of Oxford will host the event at Weaver Hall Museum on Friday, April 27, recalling the visit to Northwich in March 1934.
Under his assumed name of Aircraftsman Shaw, Lawrence of Arabia came to the town with two RAF colleagues to supervise the fitting out and sea trials of a small auxiliary supply ship for the Air Ministry.
The ship was built at W J Yarwood’s Boat Yard on the River Weaver, and Shaw and his colleagues stayed at the Crown and Anchor Hotel in town for three weeks.
The event on April 27, from 7pm, features two illustrated talks: ‘Images of Lawrence’ by Nigel McMurray and ‘On the Trail of Lawrence in Cheshire’ by Andrew Wright.
This event is open to all. Entry is £5 payable at the door.
Call Andrew Wright 01565 734677 with any enquiries.
