RESIDENTS are invited to unwind and enjoy a book in the company of others at an ongoing event in Northwich.
The reading group is held every Monday afternoon between 2 and 3.30pm at Northwich Library, in Witton Street.
The group is led by two library staff members, Denise and Dominic, and is very well attended by people of all ages and backgrounds.
Victoria Hunter, team leader at Northwich Library, said: “The Relax and Read group is intended to be a social, informal group to reduce isolation and anxiety through everyone enjoying good stories and poems collectively.
“Those attending can join in with the reading and the discussions or, if they prefer, they can simply just listen. The main focus is for it to be a sociable, friendly and stimulating group for people in the local community to come along to.”
All of the group members say that the social aspect is a big draw for them; the relaxed and friendly atmosphere makes them feel welcome and they have made many lasting friendships with other groups members.
Victoria recalls how one group member said that it feels 'like a second family' and another saying that 'it makes her feel that she belongs in the library and is not just another passing customer'.
