A BARNTON model has claimed a national pageant title and is now heading for the United States.

Competing against 55 other girls, Kelsey Poulton came out on top and has been crowned Miss Galaxy England.

The 19-year-old former Hartford High School student will be flown to Orlando, Florida to compete in the International Galaxy Finals in July.

She said: “I can’t believe it, I’m going to sleep in my crown - if I manage to sleep that is - I’m too scared if I wake up the crown and sash will be gone. This journey from the second I got my Cheshire Galaxy sash has been a rollercoaster ride and I didn’t want it to end.”

The four-night competition took place on Sunday at The Park Hall Hotel, Preston.

As well as the major title, Kelsey bagged the prizes for best in swimwear, fashionwear and interview.

Kelsey added: “I have managed to secure the title but of course that wasn’t a one man show. I have been so incredibly fortunate to have such amazing support from my family, friends and so many others that guided me on the way and for that I am so grateful. I am so proud to say I am Kelsey Poulton, your Miss Galaxy England.”

She also received the ‘Miss Charity’ award as, since being crowned last August, the teenager raised more than £3,200 for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust’s new Proton Beam Therapy Centre with various fundraising activities including a 280ft abseil.

Kelsey has competed in pageants since the age of 11, and now says that she has finally won the title of her dreams.

Kelsey's mum, Helen, said: “I was contacted by a Miss World Judge after the event who said to find a gem like Kelsey is rare and precious. We are super proud of her and are hoping for exciting things to come.”
