THE decision to approve a three-weekly bin collection scheme has been deferred for further scrutiny.
St Helens Council's cabinet were due to discuss the proposals, which aim to cut costs and increase recycling, during its meeting this evening.
However, it was decided shortly prior to the meeting to defer decision so that a scrutiny group of councillors can look at the proposals before returning to cabinet.
A St Helens Council spokesman said: “St Helens Council’s cabinet has deferred the paper proposing changes to recycling and waste services within the borough.
“A scrutiny group of councillors will instead be asked to consider the proposals.
“Any decision on reviewing recycling and waste services will need to be made by cabinet at a future date.”
The pilot scheme, if approved, will start covering two routes in September with a view to being rolled out in September 2019.
The three weekly-bin collections are estimated to save the authority £1.4 million over seven years.
